A Word From Steven Lawler .......
"I'm a 32 years old artist living in Manchester, England. I have an MA in fine arts
and have exhibited work as both a painter and a video/sound installation artist. I've also
been working as an illustrator and have done a number of cd sleeves for electronic music
bands and solo artists. In addition I design and edit a monthly fine arts newsletter for
renaissance art dealers.
I have a great interest in the fine arts, film, philosophy, contemporary music (although I
also love Bach and Wagner) and literature and am particularly interested in the way that
the fine arts can be incorporated into popular cultural iconology and vice versa.
I've been using the computer to make art since December 1998. I like it's speed and the
possibilities for endless change. I also use it as a virtual sketch book when designing
new paintings. I have a number of programs but undoubtedly Photoshop is my favourite and
comes closest to the way that I actually produce my painted images. Although I love to
paint on canvas I
believe that any further innovation in the arts can only come from new media and that's
why I want to be involved with technology. The computer is more than just an artistic
tool...it is the future."
