Robert Steven Connett - Artist and Owner
of
The Vomitus Maximus Museum
The Vomitus Maximus Museum has been around for
many years. I have enjoyed it, myself, for quite some time. If you haven't been there yet,
then have someone un-do the straps on your straight jacket and take a look at the
outstanding work done by Robert Steven Connett. The fact that he has never had any
training in art says much for the amount of talent this man has. His work is dark, violent
and disturbing. It makes you think, it may make you angry, it may make you want to puke
but it makes you feel and so little does that anymore. I'm honored to feature his work for
this issue. Below, you'll find eight of his favorite paitings, take a look and see what
you think. Then take a look at his outstanding web site for more incredible painting,
drawings and animations.
A little about Robert Steven Connett and his work
...............
I asked Robert to tell me a little about himself
and his art, this is what he had to say.......
"OK ... A little about me ... I was born in
San Francisco on 08/19/1951 ... I was a violent child, always in trouble, with below
average grades in school. I dropped out of high school at 17, (1968),
so I could take drugs and hang around pretending to be a fucking hippie, which I was not
good at ... ended up in the hospital at 18 from a heroin addiction 'light' ... After
wandering aimlessly through
3 more years of life in a black depression I went to work for my father at age 21, (1972),
... Ended up buying him out in 1981 and working as a monetarily successful insurance
broker, (and hating
every minute of it), until 1995 ... at which time I burned down my house when I was drunk,
and lost my extensive art collection, (amassed with every penny I made during my 20+ years
as an insurance broker) ... Went into a another deep depression and AGAIN became addicted
to heroin, (at age 44!), which I finally kicked in 1998, after ruining all my credit by
maxing out my credit cards on junk and rehabs ... moved out of Frisco with my creditors
screaming on my heels, landed a job in LA as a porno website operations manager ... Got
married to my wife ... and I don't know what's next. Most of my family are dead. My mother
is alive, and has never known what to say about my artwork ... but she REALLY hates the
painting 'Mother', because she thinks it's a personal statement against her ... My sister
is a painter and art teacher in Oregon. My father died a horrible death in a mad house
tied to a wheelchair in a cold dank basement corridor filled with restrained, screaming
mental patients ... I did not go to art school because I did not really consider art
seriously until I was 29 years old ... too late for the luxury of school. And I have no
idea where, or why, I come up with any of the visions that I do."
Read the Artist's Statement here,
it's very interesting, ultimately true and very thought provoking. The Witchy One
has ranted on this topic many times.
